Healthy Gluten-Free Apple Crisp

This healthier gluten-free apple crisp is made with fresh apples, gluten-free oats, crunchy nuts, cinnamon, and a touch of maple syrup.

Top with a spoonful of Greek yogurt to add a little protein.

A delicious way to enjoy the Canadian apple season!

Apple Filling

  • 5–6 apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder

Gluten-Free Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup gluten-free rolled oats
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tbsp almond flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil or butter
  • Pinch of sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the sliced apples in a baking dish. Toss with cinnamon, maple syrup, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch.
  3. In a bowl, combine the gluten-free oats, nuts, almond flour, cinnamon, maple syrup, melted coconut oil, and salt.
  4. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the apples are tender and the topping is golden.
  6. Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
